#CSUSocial Intern: Wisdom About Instagram Stories

Wisdom Who?

After months of putting off a blog post, I think it’s about time that I introduce myself. My name is Wisdom Senolos (IG: @wizzywhiz) and as of this spring semester, I’m the new social and digital media intern for Colorado State University.

I was born in the Philippines and moved to Colorado when I was 12 years old. Growing up, I have never realized my creative side. I was always out with my friends and/or playing video games with my free time. It wasn’t until freshman year of college when I decided to take a leap and spent hundreds of dollars for a brand-new DSLR. I didn’t have any knowledge about photography, but whenever I looked at any photographers’ feed on Instagram, the idea of being able to capture my experiences in a creative way excited me.

Leisure Pursuits

Living my teenage years in Colorado, I have grown to love any and all recreational outdoor activities. Whether it be hiking or skydiving, I am always down for an adventure. Lately, I have been craving road tripping and traveling around the world. Showing the world through my perspective and through my lens is the reason that I picked up a camera in the first place. But beyond that, I think what I love the most about traveling is that it puts you in a different place, a different perspective. It makes you realize how big the world is and how little you are and in that moment of realization, all your problems just seems too minuscule and go away.

Instagram Stories

Coming in as the new intern for #CSUSocial team, I quickly became aware of the team’s strategy to incorporate more Instagram Stories into their content mix. Since August of 2016, Instagram Stories has grown to become a big competitor of Snapchat. More and more creatives, companies and public figures prefer to use Instagram stories more than Snapchat because of its larger reach. With this popularity, however, means that stories on Instagram are now saturated with content.

As an Instagram user myself, I understood first-hand that it is hard to retain attention on stories especially if the story does not pertain or cater to your interests. Thus I wanted CSU’s stories to be both relevant, entertaining and different from what everyone sees everyday. With that in mind, I have been creating Instagram Stories through Adobe After Effects, Flipagram (iOS), Adobe Spark Post (iOS), and HypeType(iOS). I opted in to having quality content over quantity content.

Speaking of which, I have to go finish next week’s animations… See you next month!
