Carolyn and TJ will be supporting President Parsons’ social media presence this upcoming semester. If you see them out and about with President Parsons, make sure you say hi!

Where are you from?

Carolyn: I am from Newbury Park, CA,

TJ: I am Colorado born and raised! I grew up in Highlands Ranch, CO and moved to Fort Collins during my freshman year of college.

What’s your major and graduation year?

Carolyn: I am a journalism and media communications major with a minor in business administration. I will be graduating in Spring ‘24.

TJ: I am a business administration major with a concentration in marketing. I will graduate at the end of this semester in Spring ‘24.

Why did you choose to come to CSU and what’s been your best memory so far?

Carolyn: I had a rocky start at the beginning of my college career, attending what I thought was my ‘dream school,’ which ended up not being what I thought. I made a last-minute decision to apply to CSU, tour the school and ultimately commit to the university as I fell in love with the campus and sense of community here. My best memory so far was homecoming this year, because I got to spend time with all my favorite people in the same place.

TJ: I originally toured CSU because of the prestigious business program and location, then soon realized Fort Collins felt like home. My best memory so far at CSU was watching our men’s basketball team make and play in the NCAA March Madness tournament.

What’s your goal for after graduation?

Carolyn: After graduation, I would like to work in digital marketing at an agency. Ideally, I’d like to work in social media or brand strategy.

TJ: My goal for after graduation is to get involved in the professional field of sports. I would like to represent a team or organization or work for a close affiliate company in some capacity.

Why did you pursue a social media internship?

Carolyn: I pursued a social media internship to gain experience in a more content-centered role, as I have mainly experienced working on the strategy side of social media. This seemed like a great opportunity to test my creativity and get out of my comfort zone.

TJ: I pursued a social media internship because the influence of social media is growing every day and has become an essential part of many businesses. I wanted to give myself an advantage by developing these skills to promote a brand or business online in today’s technology-heavy era.

What are you most looking forward to during your internship working with President Parsons?

Carolyn: I am most excited to learn more about President Parsons’ role with the university and to find ways to use social media to display her work in an engaging and fun way!

TJ: I am most looking forward to building a professional relationship with President Parsons, as well as seeing how a high-level department for a public institution operates.

What’s your favorite social media platform and why?

Carolyn: My favorite social media platform is Instagram because it has a little bit of everything. It helps me keep up with what my friends are doing, has a lot of funny videos for when I want to mindlessly scroll and is also an outlet for creativity and other skills.

TJ: My favorite social media platform is Instagram. I have had Instagram for approximately a decade, and it is my favorite platform because of the continued improvements to both the user-friendliness and algorithm of the app.

What’s something interesting most people don’t know about you?

Carolyn: An interesting fact about me is that my last name is Newbury, and I grew up in a town named Newbury Park. There is no relation between the names, and it was just a weird coincidence when my mom got a job there after I was born.

TJ: An interesting fact about me most people do not know is that I am ambidextrous. Unfortunately, this skill doesn’t benefit my day-to-day life at all, but it sure is a cool party trick and icebreaker!
