It’s always such a joy hiring, onboarding and working with new student interns. Their enthusiasm, new ideas and student perspectives always breathe life into our social media work…and Mclaine Kenney and Lucy Scott are no exceptions. Lucy and Mclaine joined the Office of the President’s team this semester and we all couldn’t be more thrilled. With their contributions already making waves, we thought a Q&A would help you get to know them better. And don’t forget to look out for them when they’re out and about with President Parsons on campus! Welcome to the team, Lucy and Mclaine! – Teddi
Where are you from?
Mclaine: I grew up in Littleton, Colorado, not far from Downtown Littleton. This area has always been one of my favorite places. It is a vibrant community filled with restaurants, shops, small businesses, and lots of historical charm.
Lucy: I am from Estes Park, Colorado! I am so grateful to have grown up just a few miles from Rocky Mountain National Park.
What’s your major and graduation year?
Mclaine: I’m a fourth year student set to graduate in the spring of 2025. I’m majoring in communication studies and pursuing a minor in business administration.
Lucy: I am currently in my third year at Colorado State University, pursuing a major in economics with a focus on race, class, and gender while also working towards a minor in business administration.
Why did you choose to come to CSU and what’s been your best memory so far?
Mclaine: I chose to attend CSU because it immediately felt like a home away from home. With my sisters living in Fort Collins and Loveland, it was important to me to have that built-in support system and sense of comfort while navigating college life. So far, my best memory has been joining Zeta Tau Alpha. I always knew I wanted to be part of a sorority, but the experience has far exceeded my expectations. It’s given me incredible friends, valuable connections, and countless opportunities that have truly enriched my college journey.
Lucy: I chose CSU because of its beautiful location, welcoming and vibrant atmosphere, and the great opportunities it offers. My dad is also a CSU alum, and it’s conveniently close to my hometown. One of my favorite memories so far has been studying abroad in Ecuador last winter break, where we studied business and cultural engagement with the College of Business. It was an amazing experience!
What’s your goal for after graduation?
Mclaine: My goal after graduation is to build a successful career in the social media industry. I’m passionate about the power of digital communication and how it can shape brands and connect people. I’m eager to apply my studies in communication and business to develop creative strategies, engage diverse audiences, and make a positive impact in the ever-evolving world of social media.
Lucy: After graduation, my goal is to find a job that I truly enjoy, although I’m still figuring out what that might be. I’m interested in applying the skills I’ve learned in economics to fields like media, communications, marketing, or even public policy. I’m also considering pursuing a master’s degree. For now, I’m excited to explore and learn about various jobs and opportunities!
Why did you pursue a social media internship?
Mclaine: I wanted to pursue a social media internship because I was looking to gain hands-on experience in a field that I would most likely pursue after college. This internship is the perfect opportunity for me to apply what I’ve learned in my studies, develop new skills, and better understand the strategies behind successful social media campaigns.
Lucy: I decided to jump into a social media internship because I’ve had the opportunity to dabble in it and wanted to dive deeper! This internship also seemed like a great way to get more connected to CSU while gaining experience in a field I’m interested in.
What’s your favorite social media platform and why?
Mclaine: My favorite social media platform is TikTok. I love this platform because of its unique blend of creativity and spontaneity. I also love its wide range of content from dance trends and comedy to informative videos and so much more.
Lucy: Instagram is my favorite social media platform because it lets me share my adventures and highlights in a fun way. Plus, it’s a great way to connect and see what everyone else is up to!
What’s something interesting most people don’t know about you?
Mclaine: One interesting fact about me is that I love listening to podcasts. I listen to a wide range of topics, from true crime, history, personal development, and pop culture. The Next 150 with Amy Parsons is one of my new favorites. Podcasts are my go-to for staying focused, working on homework, or even just relaxing at home.
Lucy: One interesting fact about me that most people don’t know is that I absolutely love snow! It’s both fun and peaceful, and I love snowshoeing. But really, I’m a big fan of all things outdoors; having grown up camping, I also love activities like hiking, paddle boarding, and hammocking. I’m always in for an adventure!
