How Social Media Has Changed in the Last 10 Years

This decade brought the rise and fall (RIP Vine) to many social platforms. It’s pretty amazing to think that Instagram was only created 10 years ago and that a career in social media management is now a thing.

Here’s a look at the evolution of social media throughout the decade:

2010

– Instagram released (check out the first-ever Instagram post below)
– Pinterest launched
– Facebook Places introduced

2011

– Snapchat released
– Google+ created
– LinkedIn became a publicly-traded company
– Instagram selected by Apple as the iPhone App of the Year
– Facebook Messenger introduced


2012

– Facebook purchased Instagram for $1B
– Instagram for Android released
– Instagram improved translations for 25 languages
– More than one billion people active on Facebook
– Trending: Red Bull freefall from the edge of space

2013

– Vine launched for iOS and Android devices

2014
